I am sending this early but wanted you all to have the information. You may want to bring a guest. This week’s Rotary program is Brian Stucky, from Goessel, Kansas. Brian’s area of expertise is in pioneer trails in central Kansas. He was invited in August 2012 to speak to the National Convention of the Oregon-California Trails Association . He has done research on the Cherokee trail that came through El Dorado and will be telling us about the early trails and beginnings of El Dorado . He is also the author of "Hallowed Hardwood; Vintage Basketball Gyms of Kansas." Bernie Spradling b1spradling@sbcglobal.net

SERVICE ABOVE SELF Steve Pershall “Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves.” —Paul P. Harris These words, from the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris, were words that Steve Pershall put to work in the El Dorado Rotary Club. El Dorado Rotary was not just a social club to Steve, it was a means to accomplish good in the world. The El Dorado Rotary Club lost one of its best in 2013. Steve Pershall was an iconic figure in the El Dorado Club, holding almost every position on the board in his 16-year tenure. Steve was more than your average Rotarian, he kept the club on course to achieve its goals, coaxed members to be productive and provided members with that fatherly advice at every turn. If in doubt, ask Steve. Though Steve was bound to a wheelchair, his drive, determination and excitement for the Rotary’s mission, freed him from his confines to accomplish anything he set his sights on.
